How to Prepare for your Couple Session

Tips on getting the most out of your session…

Deciding what to wear

Picking your outfit ahead of time is ideal because it lets you choose clothes that match your style and suit the location/theme of your session. It also gives you time to coordinate outfits with your partner, reduces stress on the day, and helps you feel more confident during your shoot.

Not sure what to wear? Here’s some ideas:

1. Consider your environment

Forests and gardens can be vibrant and colourful backdrops. Brightly coloured clothing can clash with your surroundings. Earthy tones are a great choice to maintain a visually appealing image and to make sure you both stand out. However in a neutral enviroment, like a coastal setting, you may incorporate a brighter colour if you wish (see below).

2. Textures and movement

Textured fabrics like linen, lace, knits or flowing fabric make for more interesting imagery. It is important that you feel comfortable in whatever you wear, so that you can move freely and naturally during your session.

3. Classic neutral tones

If you are still not sure what colours to wear, neutral tones are guaranteed to look great and won’t clash with your partner.

Telling a Story

Your gallery should aim to capture what your relationship looks like and give an insight into your story. Part of this process is ensuring that you both feel comfortable (which can be hard when you know a camera is present). An option to help you begin to relax might be to play your favourite music during the session. If this is something you are interested in let me know.

The prompts that I will use during your session are a combination of games and movements that have the goal of bringing about genuine connection and interaction between couples. Have fun with them!

If you are feeling nervous, a great way to help forget I am present is to stage an activity you both enjoy. We can incorporate the things that you love into your session to make it unique to you. It could be a beloved pet, a picnic, bike riding, reading.. whatever you can think of! Maybe it is as simple as incorporating a small prop. It’s completely up to you.
